Research Project - English 9
Every Ninth Grade English student will complete a research project during the first semester.  
During the research process, you will:

  1. Choose a topic of interest and research widely to discover a trend over time
  2. Define the trend, examine it over time, and discover who participates in the trend
  3. Begin with a research question (Research questions must begin with WHY, WHAT, or HOW)
  4. Conduct both primary (research that does not already exist) and secondary (using information found and interpreted by others) research
  5. Use a wide variety of sources, both print and online
  6. Document your sources to avoid plagiarism in both in-text citations and a Works Cited page
  7. Analyze and synthesize the information that you gather in order to create a central idea
  8. Organize information in a logical way
  9. Submit a research log with a minimum of fifteen (15) research articles
  10. Prepare an outline of your speech (Click here for an example outline)
  11. Prepare a three to five minute oral presentation with a visual aid and practice delivery.  (Click here for a rubric for the Speech & Poster)
  12. Prepare a Works Cited page (Click here for more information)
